Managed Care Treatment

According to our research, we know that the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client is always of paramount importance. The rapport established between the two, will decide the success or failure of any patient's treatment outcome. Managed care can create restrictions which may obstruct this relationship.

There are many reasons why using your health insurance may not always be advisable for psychotherapy or addictions counseling.

It is my intention, that the following information be used to enable each individual to formulate his/her own health care decisions and recovery needs.

Please be advised that all insurance carriers require that a psychiatric diagnosis be chosen for you based on a psychiatric illness before any treatment can be rendered. This is what is referred to as treatment for medical necessity. This diagnosis, then becomes documented as an item on your permanent insurance record.

Also, within this model, the number and frequency of sessions made available to the patient may be limited based on the specific guidelines of your personal insurance plan. An ongoing deductible or copayment may also be required.

Under these limitations, therefore, the focus of a patient's psychological treatment can be both limiting and clinically standardized, sacrificing the unique concerns, confidentiality and recovery of each individual.

Remember, valuable psychotherapeutic intervention, which fosters long lasting behavioral change is as much an investment in yourself as any other type of investment can be throughout your lifetime.

Hopefully, this information can be of service to you as you consider any informed decision about your personal health care concerns.
